Cataract Treatment

Clear information about cloudy lenses, surgery and lens replacement.

Cataract assessment at Gupta Eye Center focuses on how lens clouding is affecting everyday vision — including blur, glare, night driving, colour perception and changing spectacle power. When surgery is appropriate, the consultation covers examination findings, eye measurements, lens options and the expected follow-up pathway.

  • Dilated retinal examination when appropriate
  • Eye measurements used to calculate an intraocular lens (IOL)
  • Review of other eye conditions that may affect visual outcome
Treatment pathways

Treatment is matched to the diagnosis and the eye.

The options below are common approaches that may be discussed. The appropriate plan depends on examination findings, diagnosis, eye health and individual needs.

01

Observation and updated glasses

Early cataract symptoms may sometimes be managed with brighter lighting and an updated spectacle prescription until surgery is needed.

02

Cataract surgery

The cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. The exact technique and lens choice are individualized.

03

Post-operative follow-up

Eye drops and follow-up visits help monitor healing, eye pressure, inflammation and vision after surgery.

Cataract Treatment FAQ

Common questions about cataract treatment.

These answers provide general guidance. Diagnosis and treatment decisions require an individual eye examination.

Book Consultation

Usually when cataract-related blur, glare or reduced vision interferes with activities that matter to you, such as reading, work, mobility or driving. The decision is based on symptoms, examination and personal needs.

Yes. Glasses and brighter lighting can help some early symptoms, but they do not remove the cloudy lens. Surgery replaces the cloudy natural lens with an artificial lens.

Possibly. The need for glasses depends on the chosen lens, your eye measurements, any astigmatism and your visual goals. Many people still use glasses for some distances or tasks.

When both eyes have cataracts, surgery is commonly planned separately, with timing decided by the surgeon based on clinical factors and local practice.

Sudden worsening of vision, increasing pain, marked redness, new flashes/floaters or a dark curtain/shadow should be reported urgently to the treating eye team.

The removed natural lens does not grow back. However, the capsule behind the artificial lens can become cloudy later (posterior capsule opacification), which can often be treated with a laser procedure if clinically appropriate.
